Grading and exams
The Java Programming MOOC contains University of Helsinki's courses Introduction to Programming (parts 1-7) and Advanced Course in Programming (parts 8-14). A free online exam will be held for both parts and both will be graded seperately.
The exam corresponding to Introduction to Programming is to be completed after parts 1-7. Likewise, the exam corresponding to Advanced Course in Programming is to be completed after parts 8-14.
Both exams will be held on several different days. You can attend the exam on any of these days. You may attend multiple exams and only the best grade will be registered.
Introduction To Programming
Advanced Course In Programming
Exercise points are given for all completed exercises in all parts. You can find a part's exercises in the "List of exercises in this part" dropdown on the summary page of each part. You can view your progression from the blue circle at the bottom right of the course page.
Two grades will be given for the Java Programming MOOC that correspond to courses Introduction to Programming (parts 1-7) and Advanced Course in Programming (parts 8-14). Both will be graded on the following scale:
|90% or over||5|
|80% or over, below 90%||4|
|70% or over, below 80%||3|
|60% or over, alle 70%||2|
|50% or over, below 60%||1|
The grading works as follows:
The grade is based on both completed exercises (50% of course points) as well as the exam (50% of course points). This means that the course points for the scale can be calculated by adding together the exercise points for each part from the point visualization (blue circle at the bottom right of this page) and the points from the exam.
You may attend the exam once you have gotten at least 25% of each part's programming exercise points.
Minimum point treshold
To pass each course you must receive at least half of the corresponding exam's points.
